Usability in Learning

11:30 - 12:25PM on Wednesday, June 17 2009 in G.H. Rm. B

There is a large gap in our industry where usability and user interface are concerned. We talk a lot about engaging our learners with our courseware, which is important, but we tend to forget about standard usability guidelines, not only in our courses, but in our systems as well. Current LMS interfaces are not very user-friendly, and the administrative side is often worse. A bigger focus on user interface will not only improve satisfaction, but also make it more likely for users to return for more learning, and make the administrative process more efficient. This presentation will cover the basics of usability, interface design, and show good and bad examples. The goal is to educate users, administrators, and product developers about the importance of usability and UI.
